Nuts in Florida...

Sometimes I wonder if I'm the only sane person left on earth.
This past Wednesday JP and myself report to work at the freight yard at 6 AM to start work. We're both in the crew room getting coffee and discussing our upcoming shift when I notice the headline on the local paper...
"Snow forecast for Clewiston this Christmas"

Ok, I'll bite... So I pick up the paper and start to read... And start to get the giggles which turn in to hysterical laughter. JP asks what was so funny and with tears in my eyes I hand him the article... He begins to read and has the same reaction as me.

JP and I, being from places that get snow regularly, thought this was insanely funny.

It seems that a group of octogenarian philanthropists in town decided it would be a swell idea to truck in ten tons of snow for Christmas...

Apparently, even though it's a really nice idea at the core, this group didn't think out this whole thing all that well...

Number one: Ten tons of snow isn't all that much. About as much as would cover the front lawn of a typical suburban house with 2" of the white stuff...

Number two: By the time it gets here it'll be a ten ton block of ice in the shape of the truck carrying it.

This aught to be interesting.

I can just hear that phone conversation now...

"Hey Phil, you ain't gonna believe this... Someone wants ten tons of snow delivered to Florida..."

I think Florida is going to be giving me a plethora of material in the upcoming months...

On to other things completely unrelated, I've finally got my job assignment for the upcoming crop. I'll be on the 11 PM to 7 AM shift as conductor on a "road job" meaning I won't be in the yard much. I'll be going out on long trips picking up the loaded cane cars at the various elevators along the main line, starting October 11th. That means I have a week off so I'll be taking a small trip out of town. I'm going slightly north and west on the 4th of October and I'll be back on the 9th... Photos will be posted on my return!

Well, they can have all of the show that we end up getting here. Would they like some sleet and ice to go with it?

I remember when we lived in South Carolina--it was my hubby's home port--and snow was predicted. Someone mentioned to him that, at least, HE would be able to make it to the ship because he KNEW how to drive in snow. Hubby's response: "I will go NOWHERE if it snows here. You are right, I know how to drive in snow but NONE OF THE REST OF YOU DO!"

We get more than enough snow for ANYONE who wants to spend the money to haul it out of here--they can always start in my front yard! :)

Here, here on the driving, CMK. As a guy who learned how to drive in Alaska, I don't mind driving through snowy, icy, slushy conditions. I have a November birthday. The day I took my road test to get my license was the first cold day after it had warmed above freezing - the earlier snowfalls had turned into glare ice covering everything, including the testing route.

I have no problem with the winter road conditions around New Jersey; I do have a problem with the other drivers. People become morons when any sort of precipitation presents itself, but IQs have a nasty tendancy of following the temperature.

Bill: Yeah, yeah... I know.

Cheryl: Myself being from PA I find this very funny!

Lisa: I agree... If only we could bring some of that down here also.

CMK: When I lived in Arizona, it was in a place that actually would get a fair amount of snow too. The funniest times I had there were driving to work in the mornings after a good snow and seeing all the cars with California tags off in the ditches along the way...

Kev: Same here, I got my licens in December... A while ago when it still snowed heavily in Philly. I can drive in it, it's the other morons who can't that are around me that scare me.

Alaska Jen: Could you spare some snow this winter? And I think I'll have a nice time on my trip. I've got and tourguide who I think will do ok...

RHS: Money can't buy brains...

okay, go ahead and make fun of Californians (rightly so I have to say). I must brush myself up and get ready for snow myself if I'm to endure Iceland in winter. What a wimp I've always been where cold is concerned... But I'll take Iceland anyday over FloriDUH...
