Intellectual Dildo Award

It's been a while since I've handed out one of my prestigious awards, so here it goes.
Once again, the Philadelphia Museum of Art has turned down Sylvester Stallone's donation of the 8 1/2 foot statue of Rocky Balboa and have it placed permanently in at the top of the stairs in front of the museum.
Those of you who remember the original movie "Rocky" will remember that the film immortalizes the museum and especially those stairs. I can't tell you how many times in all my years living in the City Of Brotherly Love when I've seen tourists in ones and twos, and even whole groups running up those stairs in imitation of Rocky...
And how many of those tourists have gone on to pay admission and tour your museum, Mr. Philadelphia Art commission?
Hmmm?
"It's not art, it's a prop!" Insists commission member Moe Brooker.
Of course it isn't art in what in your narrow minded view of the word is... But it is an attraction and a Philadelphia icon that's brought your stuffy and anal retentive bunch of sniveling, superior snobs there lots of coinage over the last two decades you dickhead.
And "Moe" Wasn't an affectionado of art, he was a stoodge.
And because of this decision, I bestow my Ranger Tom's Intellectual Dildo Award to the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

If I could find an intellectual dildo, I would give up dating.

Now all you need to do is create a trophy for this award and we will be all set. But it might be a little werid for a lone man walking in to store and asking for the biggest pink dildo they had.

just cover that sunbitch with elephant shit and it'll be art. Sheesh!

Do you do a year-end wrap up of these prestigious awards?

Alaska Jen is clearly under the dillusion that "intellectual sense" is present within the art community.

Why, it seems that just this summer I had a post about this very topic. The British Royal Academy of the Arts rejected an artist's sculpture of a head, but accepted and displayed the stand and stick which he had sent to hold up said head.

The Philadelphia Museum of Art has plenty of pieces on display that show nary a smidgen of intellectual sense, yet they expect their patrons to shell out increasingly higher amounts of money for the privilige of viewing these "wonderous works".

Renaming rubbish "art" in an attempt to stake claim to some sort of intellectual superiority is a complex, not an accomplishment. If they have the nerve to charge people money to view a piece of drywall with a line scratched down the front, they can deal with an actual artistic creation that people actually want to see on their lawn.

I went to college in the Philly area and I know I did the museum stair run myself. And lots of other people did too. They should take any means of getting people to visit.

Oh, and if a urinal can be art, so can a prop.

They sound like dicks, but it's a museum, and that thing IS a movie prop. I think it should go in the Smithsonian. Screw Philly.

Ok... I've hit a nerve with this post.

Seems that someone from the Philadelphia Museum of Art has been on my blog this morning at 9:18 AM

I LOVE pissing people off almost as much as I love my webtracker!
